In 2017, Dr. Lea Giménez was appointed Minister of Finance of Paraguay, and has become the first woman to hold this position. Previously, she served as Vice Minister for Economy at the Ministry of Finance.
She also holds a Ph.D in Economics from Lehigh University (Pennsylvania, USA), Master of Economics from the University of Iowa (Iowa, USA) and Economist from Emporia State University (Kansas, USA). She was an international consultant and economist in the Economic Policy and Poverty Team of the South Asia Region; in the Poverty, Gender and Equity Team in Latin America; in the Poverty Global Practice; and in Macroeconomics and Fiscal Management Global Practice. She led several programs and assisted several countries in Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean in developing and implementing policies and strategies to reduce poverty and promote economic growth with equity. Her work focused on institutional strengthening of public entities, institutional capacity-building, the promotion of evidence-based policies, and the coordination of work efforts of multilateral entities.
