Gerald Lawless was a key player in the transformation of Dubai’s tourist industry. He discusses his perspective of the role of tourism in reshaping economies.
Gerald Lawless is Chairman of the World Travel and Tourism Council, a position he took up in 2016. During a 23-year career with Forte Hotels he set up and developed Forte’s operations in the Middle East. In 1997 Mr Lawless joined Jumeirah and helped establish it as one of the world’s premier luxury hotel brands, overseeing the launch of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Burj Al Arab, before becoming President and Group Chief Executive Officer of the Jumeirah Group.
Mr Lawless is a graduate of Shannon College of Hotel Management in Ireland. He is a member of the Global Future Council on the Future of Mobility of the World Economic Forum, and recipient of the 2017 Presidential Distinguished Service Award for the Irish Abroad.Back to programme
