Michael Reid is The Economist’s Latin American Columnist (“Bello”) and Senior Editor for the region and for Spain. He was previously Mexico and Central America Correspondent (1990-93), Consumer Industries correspondent (1994-96), São Paulo Bureau Chief (1996-9) and Americas Editor (1999-2013). He was a columnist for Valor Econômico (2000-04) and Poder magazine of Mexico (2005-12). He is a frequent speaker on Latin American affairs and has given testimony about the region to the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British House of Commons. His books include Forgotten Continent: The Battle for Latin America's Soul (revised edition 2017) and Brazil: The Troubled Rise of a Global Power (2014). He lives in Madrid.Back to programme
