Iván Duque, now President of the Republic of Colombia and previously Senator and head of the Culture, Creativity, and Solidarity Division at the Inter-American Development Bank, has proposed progressive reforms in areas as diverse as carbon neutrality, maternity leave and promoting the creative industries. Here he speaks about the advances, opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for Colombia.

Iván Duque was elected to serve a four-year term as president of Colombia from 2018 to 2022. He served in the Senate from 2014 to 2018, where he proposed federal laws promoting creative industries and culture, allowing parents to pre-pay their children’s education with severance funds, extending the length of maternity leave to 18 weeks, and providing defibrillators in all public places and emergency transport. Mr Duque was previously head of the Culture, Creativity, and Solidarity Division at the Inter-American Development Bank. In his latest book, “Camino a Cero”, he explains Colombia’s strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
